Alice Sipperley Obituary

Alice Jean Sipperley Portland (Danby Township) Age 88, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016 following a brief illness and a number years of declining health. She was born in Danby Township on April 20, 1927 to Charles and Lenora (Shafer) Wheeler. She attended the Barr School, followed by Portland High School, where she graduated in 1944. Following graduation, she worked for Holly Carburetor. In 1947, she married Arnold Sipperley and they operated Forest Dow's farm, which they eventually owned. Following Arnold's death in 1982, she continued operating the farm, with help from her family. For several years she also drove school bus for Portland Schools, worked for Iler's Orchard and was the caregiver for Earl and Bernice Iler in their last years. Alice enjoyed many kinds of fancy needle work, and presented many homemade gifts to family members over the years. She enjoyed spending time with family, and with her high school graduating class, which she met frequently through t he years. she was a member of the Grand Ledge Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she enjoyed being a greeter for a number of years. She is survived by her children, Laura (Glen) Sauer of Marshall, Kendal (Pearl) Sipperley of Portland, Margaret (Phillip) Putney of Belding and Charles Sipperley of Portland. She also had six grandchildren Jessica (Jasen) Wiley, Jack (Lisa) Sipperley, Matthew (Kim) Putney, Rachel Sauer, Christopher (Tina) Sipperley and Rebecca (Andrew) White; 12 great grandchildren; sisters Anna Mae (Harvey) Stegeman, Carolyn (Richard) Wagner and Charlene Wheeler. Alice was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jill Sipperley and a sister, Ruth Murphy. The Funeral Service will be conducted by Pastors Fred Earles and Jerryn Schmidt at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 25, 2016 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. Interment will follow at Danby Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the funeral on Monday.
