Annabel Schafer

Age 91, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009. She was born on March 21, 1918 in Fowler, MI the daughter of Peter and Lenora (Smith) Klein. Mrs. Schafer was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. She celebrated 65 years of marriage to her husband, Louis Schafer on October 15, 2006 and he preceded her in death on January 16, 2007. Also preceding her in death were an infant daughter Mary Ann; grandsons, David L. and Patrick J. Schafer; 5 brothers; 1 sister and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Surviving are her children, Peter (Kay) Schafer of Pewamo, Philip (Ann Marie) Schafer of Westphalia, Bernadette (Walter) Thelen of Westphalia, Larry (Bernita) Schafer of Westphalia, Luke Schafer of Lansing, Patrick (Maureen) Schafer of Westphalia, and Michael (Doreen) Schafer of Westphalia; 21 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; brother, Peter (Marguarite) Klein; sisters, Monica (Martin) Pung and Theresa Thelen; sisters-in-law, Mary Klein, Doris Klein, and Carolyn Klein; several nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Westphalia with the Rev. Peter Schafer, Rev. James Conlon, and Rev. John Klein, presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary Funeral Chapel, Westphalia from 7-9 pm Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday. Rosaries will be prayed at 8 pm Sunday and 3 pm Monday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 pm Monday . Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland. Online condolences may be made at www.schraubenlehman.com
