Anthony Martin

Westphalia Age 81, passed away on January 15, 2011. He was born January 18, 1929 the son of Ferdinand and Pauline (Arens) Martin. Tony was member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the K of C Council #2890 in Westphalia. He retired from Al Smith and Son Plumbing after many years and was a lifelong farmer. Tony loved his grandchildren, cutting wood and when the children were younger spending a week or two at Clifford Lake during the summer. In his later years he enjoyed reading and word finds and his daughter, Tracey's ribs. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. On May 7, 1955 he married Dolores Thelen and she preceded him death on October 6, 2007. Surviving are his children Cheryl (special friend, Bill) Martin of Lansing, Kay (Kevin) Huggins of Tucson, AZ, Sheila (Stephen) Pulling of Portland, Lisa (special friend, Larry Woodruff) Martin of Grand Ledge, Gwen (Louis) Stoneburner of Basin, WY and Tracey (Phil) Gensterblum of Portland; special granddaughter, Krista Stauffer; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother Frederick (Genevieve) Martin; sisters, Norma Simon, Mildred Droste, Mary Ann (Roman) Koenigsknecht, Phyllis (Richard) Thelma, Linda (Paul) Armbrustmacher and Janice (Alvin) Feldpausch; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Conlon at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Monday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m., Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the K of C #2890 or to the V.F.W. Post #3733 in memory of Tony. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
