Arlis N. Quinn Portland Arlis Nadine Quinn, age 90, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014. She was born August 28, 1923, in Three Rivers, Michigan, the daughter of George and Anna (Fulhart) Fairman. She grew up in Buchanan, Michigan, graduated from Buchanan High School and attended Western Michigan University. Arlis met her future husband, Jack "Doc" Quinn, a local veterinarian who was fresh out of MSU's School of Veterinary Medicine, when he made a house call at her parents' home to treat the family dog. She and Jack were married in 1944 and had 6 children. He preceded her in death in 2002. Arlis was a loving and attentive mother and wonderful homemaker, and will be remembered by family and friends for her kind nature, quick smile and sense of humor. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was a regular organist at Mass for many years. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary. Arlis enjoyed music and playing the organ, playing cards, watching MSU sports, the Tigers and tennis, traveling and wintering in Florida, and, most especially, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Eileen, her parents, and her brother, Robert. Surviving are children Mary (Dave) Roderick of Westphalia, Riley (Fran) Quinn of Westphalia, Betsy (Gale) Rogers of Portland, Tim (Libbie) Quinn of Brentwood, Tennessee, Phil (Patti) Quinn of Portland, and son-in-law Ted Kanemoto of Fairfield, California; grandchildren Eric (Kristina) Kanemoto, Leslie (Jason) Mirise, Ellen Roderick, Claire (Hans) Watts, Jason Roderick, Megan (Mike) Thompson, Martin (Amanda) Quinn, Anne (Steve) McMillan, Pat (Kim) Rogers, Sarah, Nate and Anna Katherine Quinn, Dan and Emily Quinn; great-grandchildren Ryan and Emi Kanemoto, Aubrie Quinn, Sena Thompson, and Lilly Rogers; brother Bill (Marilyn) Fairman of Shoreview, Minnesota , sister Jeannine Hess of Bloomingdale, Michigan, and sister-in-law Eileen Ruff of Bloomer, Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Larry King, Pastor, at 12 noon, Friday, May 16, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 140 Church Street, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland, and one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. The rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. on Thursday and a scripture service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
