Bernadine C. Simon

Bernadine C. Simon Portland Age 87, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was born on April 22, 1928 in Westphalia the daughter of Anthony and Mathilda (Nurenberg) Thelen. Bernadine was a faith filled woman, she was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She worked on the city elections for many years, enjoyed spending time at the cottage, traveling and camping. Bernadine loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and also attending their sporting events. Bernadine retired from Portlan Public Schools after 23 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Thomas A. Simon; brothers-in-law Robert Hengesbach and Richard Simon; sisters-in-law Mary Ann Simon and Mary Ann Simon. Surviving are her children Sharon (Bob) Seidel of Ludington, David (Marlene) Simon of Portland, Laurie (Scott) Hill of Portland and Kurt (Lagaia) Simon of Pleasant Lake; grandchildren Sean, Kristi, Teri (Jon), Jarett (Amy), Jeff, Justin (Dana), Dr. Joe (Dr. Becky), Hayley (Chris), Taylor, and Sidney; great grandchildren Trinity, Ashlyn, Emilie, Lucas, Max, Brayden, Mason and Marco; siblings Donald (Georgene) Thelen, Harriet Hengesbach and Mary Ellen (Donald) Schneider; brothers-in-law William and John Simon; sister-in-law, Rosie Simon. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at St. Patrick Church with Rev. Larry King, presiding. Rite of Committal will be at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The rosary will be at 3:00 p.m. And the scripture service will be at 7:00 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick School, Hospice of Lansing or Alzheimer's-Ludington Chapter in memory of Bernadine.
