Carol Rumisek

Carol Jean Rumisek Ionia, Michigan Age 89, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012. She was born on March 7, 1923 in the Traverse City area the daughter of Earl and Vera (Osborne) Dixon. Mrs. Rumisek graduated from Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School, was a member of the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Board, worked as an operator for Michigan Bell during World War II, and afterward had a full career at Sears as a manager of communications. Upon retirement, Carol spent a great deal of time performing volunteer work, and especially enjoyed working the funeral luncheons at Ss. Peter and Paul. She loved to read, was an avid gardener, enjoyed her breakfast club at Shari's, was an excellent cook and baker, and thoroughly enjoyed putting on holiday meals for her family. Carol loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as they were the joy of her life. To her, family and education were everything. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Lawrence Rumisek; sons, Bryan and Ronald Piggott. Surviving are her children, Terry Piggott of Portland, Dale (Cindy) Piggott of Texas, Sharon (Kevin Shiroma) Martin of Illinois, Monica (Brian) Almy of Eagle, and Maureen Piggott of Ionia; grandchildren, Dana (Scott) Platte, Matthew Piggott, Erica (Steve) Breazeale, Andy (Cinnamin) Piggott, Greg (Nikki) Almy, Tracy (John) Gregory, Lyndie (Jeremy) Nobach, Amanda Shinaver, Marty (Darcy Suppes) Piggott, Jacob Shinaver, Thomas Almy, and Meghan Martin; great grandchildren, Chase, Bryce and Emma Platte, Emily and Ryan Breazeale, Brittney Piggott, Braeden Piggott-Suppes, Faith, Colt and Leah Nobach, Gianna and Aaron Almy, William Gregory, and Levi Robinson; brother, Harry Dixon; sisters-in-law, Elsie and Mary Rumisek. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2012 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ionia, with Rev. Thomas Boufford presiding. Rite of Committal will take place in the spring at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Ionia. A Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, and the family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday at Lehman Funeral Homes, 220 Rich Street, Ionia. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, or the American Cancer Society, in memory of Carol.
