Westphalia Age 88, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. Carolyn was a member St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mother's Women's Guild, St. Mary's Rosary Group, and was active in Westphalia blood drives. Carolyn volunteered for many church and community activities. She enjoyed baking, traveling, quilting and a good card game. She served for 30 years with the Tri-Co. Office of Aging serving senior citizen meals. Carolyn was recognized as the "Woman of the Year" by the knights of Columbus in 2005. She prepared funeral dinners for friends and family for 30 years and she loved babysitting her great grandchildren. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Wirth on June 23, 1982. They were married on May 1, 1946 and shared 36 years together. She was also preceded in death by her grandsons Wayne and John Wirth; great granddaughter, Ashlyn Wirth; brother, Fred Smith. Surviving are her sons Bill (Betty), Dan (Barb), Jerry (Marge), Stan (Toni) and Al (Grace) all of Westphalia; 14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild siblings Mike Smith, Dort (Richard) Kelley, Ernie Root of Ionia, Donna Hubbard of Schoolcraft, and Pat (Keith) Baker of Lyons; brother-in-law, Charles Wirth of Westphalia; sisters-in-law Agnes Wirth of Lansing, Clara and Helen Wirth of Westphalia; special friend, Julius Bengel of Westphalia and his family. The Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated by Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Rev. James Conlon, Pastor and Msgr. Sylvester Fedewa at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday at the St. Mary's Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m. Tuesday and 3 p.m., Wednesday. The Scriptural Wake Service will be at 8 p.m., Wednesday. Arrangements are with Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland.
