Connie Cook Obituary

Connie Jean Cook, 73, of Ionia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 8, 2010. She was born on Oct. 23, 1936, the youngest of eight children, to Claude and Bessie (Misner) Clark. Connie married Joseph A. Cook of Pewamo on Oct. 5, 1957, at S.S. Peter & Paul Church of Ionia. He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1959. Connie was a hard-working, single mother of two; the mother of Gregory (Kathleen) Cook and Diane (Joe) Davis. Throughout the years, she held many work positions, including jobs at Fred’s, Kroger, Eberhard’s and Whipples. Surviving are her two children, and five grandchildren: Ally, Mattie, Ellen and Margot Cook and Chelsea Davis, all of Ionia. Connie had a very large and loving family, but she especially appreciated the lifelong support and friendship of her sister, Shirley (James) Miller and her family, as well as her niece Sally (Jack) Eilar and family. Also surviving are sisters Helen Loucks of Ionia and Esther (George) Kutras of Redding, Calif., and may special nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, brothers “Hap” and “Bud” Clark, sisters Evelyn and Margie, as well as a close nephew and godson, Paul Miller. Connie enjoyed quilting/crafts, reading, spending time with all of her family and friends, as well as the occasional trip to the casino. She was a very devoted and fun mother, aunt and grandma, with a witty sense-of-humor. She had a very close relationship with each of her five grandchildren, and although known as an excellent cook by all, her grandkids were especially fond of her grilled cheese sandwiches. Connie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. At her request, cremation will take place. A visitation for Connie will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2010, at the Shrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia. A funeral will follow at 2 p.m., immediately after visitation. Memorial contributions in memory of Connie J. Cook may be made to Freedom Acres School in Ionia.
