Daniel V. O'Brien Westphalia, MI Daniel V. O'Brien, 95, of Westphalia passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014. Dan was born July 12, 1918 in Mt. Pleasant, MI to Alonzo and Catherine (Swift) O'Brien. On December 2, 1950, Dan married the love of his life, Dorothy Arens and together they celebrated over 63 years of marriage. Dan and Dorothy had five children; Janice (Paul) Arsenault, Sharon, Jerry (Denise), Dave (Leanne) and Joe (Kathy) and grandchildren Chris (Beth) and Brad Arsenault, Marisa, Leah, Garrett, Natalie and Shawn O'Brien. Dan was a proud member of the United States Armed Forces, served as a marksman in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He owned and operated United Cleaners in Lansing for many years until his retirement. He was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus Westphalia Council #2890, a member of the St. Joseph's Society, and a member of the V.F.W. Fowler Westphalia Pewamo Post #3733. Dan enjoyed bowling, playing cards, gardening, and socializing with neighbors and friends. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Along with his wife Dorothy, children, and grandchildren, Dan is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mathias Thelen at 10:30 on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at St. Mary, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Westphalia. The family will receive friends from 7-9 on Tuesday, May 27 and from 2-4 and 7-9 on Wednesday, May 28 at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Rosaries will be prayed at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 3:00 p.m. Wednesday. The scriptural wake service will be at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Thanks to the Westphalia Fire Department and the excellent health care professionals at Sparrow Hospital. Special thanks to the caregivers who have been so helpful over the past couple years, especially Millie, Sharon, Diane, Janie, Kristy, Rachel, Sam, Mariah, Danielle and Marisa.
