Age 83, passed away on April 14, 2003. He was born on October 2, 1919 in Detroit, MI the son of Norman and Gertrude (Fox) Martin. Mr. Martin was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus Council #2168, and also a Veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold and Dennis Martin; sister-in-law Vi Martin; brother-in-law David Simon. Surviving are his sisters: Betty (Roman) Martin of Grand Rapids, Janice Simon of Portland, and Mary Lou (Pete) Pline of Portland; sisters-in-law Mary Lou Martin of Lansing, and Lois Martin of Toledo, OH; several nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Charles D. Hall, Pastor at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2003 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Rite of Committal following at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a Scripture Wake Service held at 8 p.m. Wednesday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to The Father Flohe Foundation, American Cancer Society, or Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, in memory of Donald Martin.
