Donald Herman Thelen Portland Age 81, passed away on March 5, 2008. He was born on August 25, 1926 in Fowler the son of Robert and Rose (Martin) Thelen. Mr. Thelen was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, K of C Coucil #2168, American Legion and the V.F.W. Post #4090 all in Portland. He was formerly on the Portland City Council and was a Ionia County Commissioner. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Raymond. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann; children Patricia Koenigsknecht, Thomas (Karen) Thelen, Denise (Jim) Anderton, Joseph (friend, Sharon Thelen) Thelen, Mary Frances (Don) Anderson, John (Lisa) Thelen; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; siblings Martin Thelen, Marcella Rademacher, Clarence Thelen, Joan (Irwin) Miller, James (Helen) Thelen, Jerome (Arlene) Thelen; sister-in-law, Therese Thelen; many nieces and nephews. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2008 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland with Rev. William Koenigsknecht presiding. Rite of Committal will be at Portland Cemetery. The family will recieve friends 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. A Scriptural Wake Service will be at 7:00 p.m.. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick Church - Boiler Fund in memory of Mr. Thelen.
