Portland Dorothy Lee Maxwell, 73, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed into Heaven on Tuesday, January 2, 2007. She was born May 11, 1933 in Danese, West Virginia, the youngest of 17 children. She raised her family in Lansing, MI, later moving to the Portland area. Dorothy retired from ASC Incorporated, of Lansing in May of 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Etta Belle Hanshew and several brothers and sisters. Dorothy was a people person who loved quilting, children, her church, and making homemade goodies for her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, John W. Maxwell Sr. of Portland, and children, Lisa (Karl) Prebeck, Charles (Lisa) Rhodes, Kathleen (special friend Jim Johnson) Wood, Dale Rhodes, David (Catherine) Rhodes, and Lori (special friend Doug Spitzley) Rhodes, and two step-children, Sarah Maxwell and Johnny Maxwell Jr. Dorothy had 12 grandchildren: Lydia Prebeck, Jeff Ecklebecker, Dustin Rhodes, Christyle McCoy, Kay Rhodes, Joshua Rhodes, Samantha McNutt, Corey McNutt, Jessica Rhodes, Leah Rhodes, Cody Rhodes, and Mackenzie Rhodes. Great-grandchildren: Brendan, Anika, Samara, Morgan, Paul, Rosalyn, Bella, and Thackery. Other children special to Dorothy: Curtis Kincaid of Ionia, Amy and Ted Kolp family and Steven Tiemann of Portland. Family will receive guests Thursday, January 4, from 5:00pm-9:00pm at Schrauben- Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St, Portland and on Friday, January 5, from 11:00am-1:00pm at the First Baptist Church in Portland preceding services at 1:00 pm. Services conducted by Pastor Steven Taylor.
