Dorothy Catherine O'Brien Westphalia, MI Dorothy Catherine O'Brien, 97, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 at her home. Dorothy was born December 30, 1916 in Westphalia to Albert and Philomena (Nau) Arens. On December 2, 1950, Dorothy married the love of her life, Daniel O'Brien. Dorothy and Danny were married over 63 years until Dan's death on May 24, 2014. Dorothy was a member of the Christian Mother's Society and volunteered at many functions through the years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed baking and was well known for her Christmas cookies, cinnamon rolls, homemade bread, rolls and pies. Dorothy was a good neighbor and friend and enjoyed the company of many. She especially enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was devoted to her faith and practiced it until the end of her life. Dorothy had five children who survive her including Janice (Paul) Arsenault, Sharon O'Brien, Jerry (Denise), Dave (Leanne) and Joe (Kathy) O'Brien, grandchildren Chris (Beth), and Brad Arsenault, Marisa, Leah, Garrett, Natalie and Shawn O'Brien. Also surviving is one sister-in-law, Gertrude Arens, and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the helping angels including Sharon, Millie, Diane, Janie, Kristy, Sam, Danielle, Mariah, Ellen, Judy, Rachel, Marisa and Janice. We couldn't have done this without you. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will be at St. Mary' Catholic Cemetery in Westphalia. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19th and from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday August 20th at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Rosaries will be prayed at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and 3:00 p.m. Wednesday. Scriptural Service will be at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Arrangements are entrusted to the Lehman Funeral Home, Portland. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Westphalia First Responders, St. Mary's Parish or the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Dorothy.
