Edward L. "Skip" Thelen Westphalia, MI Age 79, our beloved Skip Thelen, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014. He was born on October 23, 1934 in Westphalia, MI the son of Edward and Minnie (Stump) Thelen. Skip retired from Consumers Energy, where he worked for 44 years. He served 25 years on the Westphalia Fire Department, and 12 years as the Chief. Skip served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Westphalia Council #2890. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and Richard; sisters, Bernadette and Bernadine. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Karen (Belen) Thelen; son, Tobey (Julie) Thelen of Dexter, MI; grandson, Edward John "E.J" Thelen; brother, Delbert (Joyce) Thelen; in-laws, Thomas Belen, Timothy (Judie) Belen; sisters-in-law, Therese Thelen and Phyllis Thelen; brother-in-law, Dennis (Marge) Thelen. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. Mathias Thelen presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m. Wednesday, and 3 and 8 p.m. Thursday. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland.
