Eleanor (Noey) Ruth (Adgate) Day Portland, Michigan Eleanor (Noey) Ruth (Adgate) Day passed quietly on April 7, 2015 at Kalkaska's Memorial Eden Center. She was born in Orange Township, Michigan, October 20, 1918, the daughter of Elmer and Jessie (Megarah) Adgate. Eleanor began her education in the Riker Schoolhouse and graduated from Portland High School, she continued on to Ferris College majoring in business. She was married to Kenneth Day on October 23, 1940. Preceding her in death were her parents, Elmer and Jessie (Megarah) Adgate; husband of 61 years, Kenneth George Day; son, Douglas Lee Day; sister, Lois Adgate; brothers, Lawrence Adgate, Neal Adgate, Leland Adgate and Wayne Adgate. Surviving are her son, Gerald (Connie) Day; daughter, Joan Day-Martin (George Martin); sisters, Margaret Whipple and Phyllis Jones; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Adgate, Sally Adgate, and Jo Ann Adgate; grandchildren, Kelly (William) Hamilton, Jason Day, Jamie Day, Christopher Day-Martin (Amy Zachara); 7 great grandchildren; 20 nieces and nephews. Eleanor was a resident of Portland for most of her life, spending 2 years in Big Rapids while attending Ferris, and has been in the Kalkaska area since 2008. Her career encompassed working for Barley Earhart Corp. in Portland, the Portland Review and Observer newspaper and Michigan State's Department of Adult Continuing Education until her retirement. She enjoyed target shooting, knitting, sewing, bridge games with her lifelong friends, long drives throughout Michigan, camping, square dancing as a member of the Portland Dudes and Dolls, floating the Grand River on a pontoon boat with her husband, traveling across the country, listening to frogs sing at night, and her family and friends. She was a member of the Portland United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank Meals on Wheels for their service in delivering food and their friendly banter with Eleanor in her Portland home; Portland EMS crews that responded to her aid when she was in need of them, always treating her with thoughtful respect and professionalism; Special thanks to the Eden Center in Kalkaska for their untiring care, gentle touches, warm smiles and much more each day she spent with you. You have all made our journey easier when we struggled, your presence, dedication and service is so very much appreciated. Thank you all. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland, with Pastor Keith Treman of the Portland United Methodist Church presiding. Interment will follow at Portland Cemetery.
