Age 90, passed away Septemeber 10, 2004. She was born on Septemebr 7, 1914 in Wayne Co., MI. the daughter of Frank and Katherine (Fox) Smith. Mrs. Thelen was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Westphalia, and the Christian Mothers. She was active on the family farm with her husband, Alfred and enjoyed baking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred in 1998, a brother, John Smith, a grandson, Gerard Thelen and a granddaughter, Erica Thelen. Surviving are her two daughters Genevieve (Fred) Martin of Westphalia, and Mary Ann (Bruno) Cook of Fowler; two sons, Roger (Bernice) Thelen of Fowler and Larry (Jeannette) of Westphalia; 19 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., both Monday and Tuesday at the St. Mary Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m., both days. For those wishing, contributions may be made to the Fr. Al Miller Educational Trust Fund in memory of Mrs. Thelen.
