Elizabeth M. Spitzley, age 76, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017. She was born April 25, 1940 in Westphalia the daughter of Joseph and Laurina (Wirth) Hanses. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Liz was a homemaker and a receptionist at Pohl Insurance Agency for 25 years. She cherished her family and grandchildren whom she loved very dearly. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Bob, playing cards with friends and family, bus trips, attending her grandchildren’s school activities, and watching sports, especially the Spartans and Tigers. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Reynold Hanses and David Hanses; sister, Kathleen Barker; brothers-in-law, Simon Smith, Reece Hattis, Robert Barker, Donald Spitzley, Phil Spitzley, John Fedewa, Donald Harr and Allan Halfman; sisters-in-law Rosie Hanses, and Ruth Spitzley. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert “Bob” Spitzley; her children Keith (Lisa) Spitzley, Doug (Donna) Spitzley, Sherri (Dave) Becker, and Kelli (Mark) Selby; 16 grandchildren; sisters, Revella Smith and Dorothy Hattis; brothers-in-law Louie (Ruth) Spitzley and Paul (Elaine) Spitzley; sisters-in-law, Kate Hanses, Helen Fedewa, Marian Halfman, Sandy Spitzley and Helen Spitzley; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 9, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St. The rosaries will be prayed at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday and 1:30 and 5:30 p.m., Wednesday. Arrangements are with Lehman Funeral Homes.
