Elon Goodman

Goodman, Elon Peter Portland Age 80, Passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 in Portland. He was born on March 1, 1923 on the same farm that he spent his entire life to Anthony and Susan (Spitzley) Goodman. Mr. Goodman was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church, as well as the Knights of Columbus Council #2168. Elon was a lifelong area dairy farmer, and he enjoyed playing cards and fishing. For many years he would bring smiles to the children in the school, making many friends selling a la carte until 1992. Mr. Goodman was a kind and humble man with a great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Anna and a granddaughter Erica Schneider. Surviving are his wife, Marie; children: Anthony (Connie) Goodman of Battle Creek, William (Cathy) Goodman of Grand Ledge, Dennis (Jean) Goodman of Portland, Francis (special friend Val) Goodman of Sunfield, Janet (Ron) Schneeberger of Grand Ledge,Doris (Dave) Arndt of Grand Ledge, Annette (Rich) Schneider of Portland, and Colleen (Rich) Dehnke of Grand Ledge; 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy Goodman of Portland; several step children, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Charles D. Hall, Pastor at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2003 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with Rite of Committal to follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral home, 210 E. Bridge St. Portland, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Rosaries will be prayed both days at 3 and 8 p.m. for those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Father Flohe Foundation or Ionia Area Hospice, in memory of Mr. Elon P. Goodman.
