Emaretta Frye Obituary

Emaretta "Pearle" Frye, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 28, a memorable day in our family history now, as it is the date of her sister Juanita (dec) birthday, and is also the date her son, George, Jr., passed away 2 years ago, after fighting a 2 ½ year battle with cancer. Pearle was a loving wife of George (dec.) for 57 years and a wonderful mother to their 6 children. Three children and a son-in-law preceded her in death: Fran (Mel) Huhn, George Frye, and Denise Bandfield. Also preceding her in death, besides sister Juanita, was brother Elmo. Surviving children: Alice (Rod) Hatcher, Sharon Frye (wife of George, Jr.), John (Kathi) Frye, and Joan Fitzpatrick. Surviving grandchildren: Brian (Michelle) Thrasher, Chanda (Matt) Manturuk, Eric (Betty) Frye, Emily (Brian) Petersen, Ashley Frye, Erin (Matthew) McCloskey, Sarah Fitzpatrick, Sabrina Fitzpatrick, Andrew Fitzpatrick, Trevor Fitzpatrick, and Michael John Frye. She is survived by 9 great grandchildren. Pearle was born in Hobson, Montana, May 17, 1922. Her mother died when she was 14. Her father came to Detroit, Michigan with his 3 children in 1941. Pearle met George in Chicago, they were married Nov. 11, 1941. Pearle was employed for a short time in a factory that made tanks in WWII. After children were born, she remained a homemaker, wife and mother to their 6 children. Two children were born in Detroit and one in Chicago. Then in 1953, they moved to Portland, where George helped start the TRW plant. The last 3 children were born when they lived in Portland. Pearle was always active in churches where they lived, Portland United Methodist Church, Eastern Star and Job’s Daughters, and helped with committees and youth groups, and supported missions. After the children were grown, George and Pearle moved to Utica, MI where she supported George’s completion of a long career at TRW in the Detroit area as well as Japan and living in Mexico. After retirement in Florida, where they lived when George passed, Pearle moved up to Spring Arbor, MI to live near her daughters, Joan and Alice. A great heritage in family, Christian living and musicianship she passes on to the generations. Funeral arrangements as we celebrate the life of Pearle Frye will be held on Friday, May 6, at the Portland UMC, 10:00 viewing, 11:00 a.m. service, followed by internment at Danby Cemetery, then luncheon provided back at the church. All are welcome. Pearle was living at daughter Joan’s house the last 3 months, on Hospice. Any donations made to Great Lakes Hospice would be appreciated and welcome, as they assisted us with lovely collaborative care for our dear mother.
