Eugene Snitgen Obituary

Eugene E. Snitgen Westphalia, Michigan; formerly of Portland Age 86, of Westphalia, formerly of Portland, passed away March 2, 2015. He was born on December 13, 1928 in Westphalia, MI the son of Alfred and Aurelia (Schoenith) Snitgen. Eugene served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Alaska as a tank commander. He married Annette Lay in 1951. He retired from Wolverine Power in 1991 as Chief Operator. Eugene was a member of the VFW Post #3733, Catholic Order of Forresters and the Saint Joseph Society. He loved to travel and visited most of the 50 states. Eugene enjoyed playing cards and pool and loved to spend the winters in Arizona. Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife, Annette; son, Eric; siblings, Anthony, Paul, Juliette, Rosemary Huhn, and Germaine Thelen. Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Donna (Witgen) (Pike); sons, Dave (Jean) Snitgen, Russ (Rose) Snitgen; daughter, Lois Sanders; daughter-in-law, Robin Snitgen; son-in-law, Cliff Sanders; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; step children, Cindy (Dave) Miller, Gary (Melanie) Pike, Kathy (Dean) Grace, Mark (Vicky) Pike, and Mike (Audrey) Pike; 15 step grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren. Special thanks to McClaren Health Hospice and Fairview Adult Foster Care for the wonderful care given to our husband and father. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 5, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia, with Rev. Eric Weber presiding. Rite of Committal will take place at Portland Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the Fowler Westphalia Pewamo V.F.W. Post #3733. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Father Miller Foundation, St. Patrick's Father Flohe Foundation, or for Parkinsons research, in memory of Mr. Snitgen.
