Evelyn C. Hengesbach Westphalia, Michigan Age 83, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by all her children on May 8, 2015, the same date as the love of her life, Louis, on the 5th anniversary of his death. She was born on February 23, 1932 to Robert and Adeline (Bohr) Platte. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert, sister Mary Ellen Pohl, brothers-in-law Robert Bengel and Robert Hengesbach, sister-in-law Sr. Angelica (Ruth) Hengesbach, grandson Brendon Nurenberg and great-granddaughter Briley Henning. She is survived by her children Adel (Dale) Beachnau, LuAnn (Dave) Simon, Jody (Steve) Simon, Krisie (Steve) Thelen, Warren (Dicksie), Ruth (Joe) Schueller, Louis II (Mary Jane), Lisa (Terry) Nurenberg, Bill (LeAnn), Bob (Paula), Maria (Bill) Willard, Amy (Bruce) Cook, Andy (Stephanie), and Brian (Dawn); 41 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren with three on-the-way; sisters Arlene Koster, Gladys Bengel and Diane (Bill) Thelen, sisters-in-law Beverly Platte and Harriet Hengesbach; brothers-in-law Elvan Pohl and Ted (Rose Marie) Hengesbach; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Evelyn was a member of St. Mary Parish, Westphalia, a life-long homemaker. She was also a member of the former Daughters of Isabella, the Christian Mothers and Womens Guild, Catholic Order of Foresters, Companions of the Pauline, and Blessed Mother Rosary Club. She was also a member of the church choir for 67 years. Her joy was making rosaries, singing, baking, playing cards, attending sporting events and most especially rocking babies. She enjoyed attending daily mass for as long as she was able, the cottage at Chippewa Lake, and watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia, with Rev. Eric Weber presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Rosaries will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. on both Monday and Tuesday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Westphalia Fire Department and McLaren Hospice, in memory of Evelyn. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
