Frances Willits

Age 89, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2008. She was born on October 28, 1918 in Lake Odessa, MI the daughter of J. Glenn and Mary (Augst) Shaw. Mrs. Willits was a member of the Berlin Center United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Berlin Center Grange. She was a member of the North Berlin Aid Society and was a 4H Leader for many years. She was a great cook, baker, and seamstress who loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Simmons in 1966. In 1967 she married Dr. Clayton Willits and he preceded her in death in 1979. She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Surviving are her children: Carl (Karen) Simmons of Ionia, Marilyn Hotchkiss of Saranac, H. Keith (Gail) Simmons of Ionia, and Carolyn (Jack) Westmoreland of Charlotte; Grandchildren: Dan (Christine) Simmons of Vienna, GA, Rebecca (Rick) Cannan of Pompano Beach, FL, Katrina Simmons of Ionia, Douglas (Deb) Hotchkiss of Ionia, Lisa (Myron) Lewis of Bloomington, IN, Erica (Mark) Rolfe of Ionia, Ryan (fiancee, LaBell Nietzel) Simmons of Ionia, Nicole Simmons of Ionia, Brian Westmoreland of Kalamazoo, and Ryan Westmoreland of Charlotte; 8 Great Grandchildren; 2 Step Daughters, Priscilla (Jim) Reid of Nashville and Patricia Dale of Tekonsha; 6 Step Grandchildren; 14 Step Great Grandchildren; 3 Step Great Great Grandchildren; special niece, Jean Bennett; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The Funeral Service will be conducted by the Rev. Den Slattery, Pastor at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Berlin Center United Methodist Church with interment following at Balcom Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia Area Hospice or to the Berlin Center United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in memory of Mrs. Frances Marie Willits.
