Gary James Barnes Portland, MI. and Dickerson Lake Age 63, passed away at home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 29, 1944 in Portland the son of Richard and Lucille (Gilbert) Barnes. On August 2, 1969 he married Marcia Fletcher. He worked at Diamond REO and is retired from General Motors. Gary enjoyed collecting various items and going to garage sales often times finding hard to find items for his family. He always had an interest in the latest electronic technology. He enjoyed going to classic car shows, taking his 1928 REO with his wife Marcia. Gary loved being at his cottage on Dickerson Lake and he also loved having his family around, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Joan Green. Surviving are his wife, Marcia; children Gregory (Kelly) Barnes of Portland and Sheri (Russell) Smith of Lyons; grandchildren Tyler, Emily, Rikki and Dominic; brother Richard (Kay) Barnes of Greenville; sister Carol (Corky) Church of Grand Ledge. Funeral Services will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Marilyn V. Danileson at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. Interment will follow at Portland Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the V.F.W. Post #4090. The family will recieve friends 3-8 p.m., Sunday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ionia Area Hospice in memory of Gary. Online condolences may be made at www.schraubnelehman.com.
