Gaylord Coe Obituary

Age 81, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2003 at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing.  He was born on December 4, 1921 in Ionia the son of Glen W. and Luella (Hayden) Coe.  He graduated from Ionia High School and was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.  He worked for Mitchell Bentley, A.O. Smith, and Gen Corp and also was a full time fireman for the Ionia Fire Department.  Mr. Coe owned and operated Sinclair Refinery and Coe Cycle Sales both in Ionia.  He was a member of the First Christian Church in Ionia, the Flat River Antique Car Club and the Grand Rapids Antique Car Club.  He also worked as a Press Operator and Type Setter for the Ionia Sentinel Standard. He was preceded in death by his wife Artis in 1991; 1 daughter, Linda Neumann in 1976; 1 son, Edward Coe in 2001; sister, Nevene Chipchase.  He is survived by 3 sons, Gary (Linda) Coe of Holt, James (Lisa) Coe of Ionia, and David Coe of Ionia; 7 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; brother, Donald Coe of Ionia.  The Funeral Service will be conducted by the Rev. Carol Richardson, Pastor at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 25, 2003 at the First Christian Church in Ionia.  The Interment will follow at Balcom Cemetery in Ionia with Rev. Kenneth Harger, Pastor of Shiloh Community Church officiating.  The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Cook Chapel, 220 Rich Street, Ionia from 2-4 and 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.  For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund, the Flat River Antique Car Club, or to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. Gaylord W. Coe.
