Ionia
Gene Brammell age 81 of Ionia passed away at his home on Thursday, February 3, 2011 under the care of his loving family and Ionia Area Hospice. He was the son of the late Ova "Ovie" Brammell and Clara (Womack) Brammell of Holt, Michigan. Gene was born on June 29, 1929 in Pactolus, Kentucky. Mr. Brammell graduated from Prichard High School in Grayson, Kentucky. He worked and retired from the State of Michigan "Department of Corrections" as a plant superintendent with 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army where he was based in Japan during the Korean conflict. He was a member and an officer of the Ionia Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the Ionia Moose Lodge, American Legion, and the V.F.W. Gene will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Vanessa Brammell; brother, W.T. Brammell. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Clara "Kaye" Brammell; brother, Milton (Sandy) Brammell; children, Sharon (Richard) Harmon, and Phillip Brammell (Margaret "Maggie" Messer); son-in-law, Charles Peterson; 10 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2011 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Ionia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00-2:00 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia Area Hospice.
