Geraldine Shafer

Age 98, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2010. She was born on August 4, 1912 in Grand Rapids the daughter of I. Roy and Myrtle (Brown) Grove. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1931. She married Clare Shafer at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in 1934. She retired from American Seating Company in 1977 and was a member of the UAW Local 135. She was also a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. Gerry started the hot lunch program at Ss. Peter and Paul Academy in the early 1950's. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clare in Feb. 1992; son, Eugene in 1981; 1 great grandson Josef Wolfe Banhagel in 2003; 1 grandson, James Kent Shafer in 1967. Surviving are a daughter, Regina (Walt) Lyons of Newark, Ohio; son, Louis R. (Sandra) Shafer of Ionia; 8 grandchildren, Brenda Rockafellow, Robert Banhagel, Becky Lottridge, Louis B. Shafer, Wes Shafer, Tracy Wieber, Erich Shafer, and Scott Shafer; 13 Great Grandchildren, Julian Scott Shafer, Raymond Louis Shafer, Araceli Martinez, Sarah Harris, Garrett Rockafellow, Sam Rockafellow, Drew Blankenship, Jacob Blankenship, Jesse Shafer, Wyatt Shafer, Briana Wieber, Madeline Wieber, Eilene Wieber; 2 Great Great Grandchildren, Danial Jack Harris and Layla Love Martinez; There will be visitation held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, 220 Rich Street, Ionia. A rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Private family interment will take place at East Plains Cemetery. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Ss.
