Gladys Spitzley
<P>Age 76, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2003. She was born on March 28, 1927 in Sebewa Twp., MI the daughter of Sydney and Mildred (Evans) Brown. Mrs. Spitzley was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She started as a Stenographer at Auto Owners and eventually moved up into management there and retired after 46 years of service. She was an avid University of Michigan fan, won knitting awards, enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports, and also played the piano and organ. She was preceded in death by her parents. She married William J. "Bill" Spitzley on June 25, 1949, and together shared 54 years of marriage, and he survives her. Also surviving are her children, Elizabeth ( Douglas) Hart of Middleville, MI, William Spitzley of Portland, and Patricia Spitzley of Laingsburg; grandchildren, Catherine, Anne-Marie, and Michael Hart, Christopher, Mark, and Amy Spitzley; cousins, Harold (Jean) Evans, Janet (Vaughn) Carter, and Ron (Mary) Evans; family friend, Dale Carlson. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Shamaun Beas, Associate Pastor at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2003 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Rite of Committal following at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Friday.
