Gordon Pierce field

Gordon Lyle Piercefield Portland Gordon Lyle Piercefield was born April 25, 1929 in Ionia County to William Arthur" Joe" and Thelma Irene (Catlin) Piercefield. He was their second son and third child in a family of 15 children. He married Cleo Downing on June 18, 1949, the day she graduated from Western Michigan University. Their married life together began in a travel trailer until they saved enough to purchase the farm on Knoll road, putting his carpentry skills to use, they made the house livable. He died on May 1, 2014, in that same house. He began his work career on the farm helping his father and then purchased his own farm. He did custom combining. He was the owner of East Side Lumber in Portland and ended his work career with Portland Iron and Metal Company. Upon his and Cleo's retirements, they traveled in their motorhome, spending over 25 years wintering in Florida. He loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years Cleo and their two children: Lori (Bill) Fox and John (Cindi) Piercefield. Five grandchildren: Jamie (Jenny) Fox, Lisa (James) Espinoza, Mark Fox, Tyler Piercefield and Caitlin Piercefield. Seven great-grandchildren: Brian and Jared Fox, Brooklynn and Logan Greene, Elijah, Landon and Aiden Espinoza. He is survived by nine siblings: Wanda Pepper, Wayne (Bea) Piercefield, June (Robert) McCaul, Jerry (Caroline) Piercefield, Janet King, Bonnie (Bill) Kinsman, Patricia Van Houten, Wilma Waters, and James (Shelly) Piercefield and sister-in-law June Piercefield. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Norman and Leroy and baby Joe; sisters, Pearl Richardson and baby Barbara; brother-in-laws: Mike Richardson, Leo Pepper, Dave Van Houten and Bob Waters; sister-in-law, Blanche Piercefield. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Outreach Christian Church, Lake Odessa. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the church and 1 hour before service on Wednesday. Private family interment wil take place in East Sebewa Cemetery. Donations to Great Lakes Hospice for their gentle care of Gordon during his last months. On line condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
