Gordon Sargeant
Gordon Henry Sargeant Age 81 of Ionia, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 7, 2006. Gordon was born July 9, 1924 in Ionia the oldest child of George and Minnie (Raymond) Sargeant. He attended Loomis School and graduated from Ionia High School. After High School he served in the United States Navy during WWII. "Big Sarge" was a loyal member of the Moose Lodge and he is retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia in 1994; his parents; brothers, LaVern, Stanley and Keith; and a grandson, Patrick Kennedy. Surviving are his children, Gloria (Dave) Cook of Ionia, Bruce (Marty) Smith of Ames, Iowa, and Georgia (Jim) Kennedy of Byron; aunt, Irene Wood of Belding; grandchildren, Gregory, Kathleen, Michael and Eric; Great Grandchildren Allison, Mattie, Ellen and Margot Cook, Ashley, Elizabeth, Gordon Kennedy and Willem Smith. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Armand Aronson at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia. Interment will follow in Balcom Cemetery.
