Harold "Sonny" Carpenter

Harold "Sonny" A. Carpenter Eagle, Michigan Age 80, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. He was born on August 19, 1932 in East Lansing, MI the son of James and Elsie (Wolf) Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, retired from General Motors, and was a life long area farmer. Harold graduated from Michigan State University, and attended the First Baptist Church in Portland. He enjoyed the outdoors, traveling throughout Canada and Alaska, camping, hunting and fishing. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Dorothy Carpenter. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Janet Carpenter; children, Julie (Phil) Hedrick, Jim (Julie) Carpenter, and Mark (Nancy) Carpenter; grandchildren, Rebecca, James, Timothy, Ben, Sarah, Katie, Matthew and Elly Carpenter; brothers, Dale (Marsha) Carpenter, and Don (Shelley) Carpenter; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 25, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, Portland, with Pastor Bruce Sabados presiding. Interment will take place in Greendale Township Cemetery, Midland County, MI. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans of America, or the American Alzheimers Association, in memory of Harold.
