Harvey Heppe Obituary

Orleans, MI Born on the Fourth of July in 1926, Harvey Heppe, 81, of Orleans, will be watching fireworks from heaven this holiday. Harvey died Monday of injuries from an auto accident in May. One of the happiest days of his life was when he was able to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Gertrude in 2003. Harvey was a family man ahead of his time, always finding time to play ball with his kids and take them on annual summer vacations as children, despite the long hours of farm life and working full time for the State Liquor Control Commission. When they were older, he never stopped being there for them. He loved to hunt, watch NASCAR and the Detroit Tigers, go yard-saling with his wife and spend time at "the cabin." Another joy was simply visiting with neighbors and family over a cup of coffee. He was a practical joker who loved making people laugh. He could strike up a conversation with anyone with his friendly manner - and in doing so it usually made him a new friend for life. He will be incredibly missed by his family, but they'll have Harvey stories in their hearts that can keep spreading his laughter forever. Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, LuAnn (Tom) Phelps, Donna Ackley, Don (Karen) Heppe, and Linda (Dave) Odette; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth (Brandon) Morse, Josh, Andrew, Rachel, Henry, Olivia, Jacob and Owen; one great granddaughter, Jessica; two sisters, Mildred Hartman and Katherine (Stephen) Kenter; several sister and brother-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Vernon (Kathleen) Heppe, Robert (Lucille) Heppe, Adam Heppe; his parents, Henry and Elizabeth Heppe; a son-in-law, Richard Ackley brother-in-law Stephen Hartman. The Funeral Service will be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Harger at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Shiloh Community Church with interment following at Higbee Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 am until service time at the church on Thursday. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Community Church, 8197 Heth St.; Orleans, MI. 48865 or to the First Responders P.O. Box 72; Orleans, MI. 48865 in memory of Mr. Heppe.
