Herman John Thelen Westphalia Age 89, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012. He was born on January 2, 1923 in Clinton Co., MI the son of John A. and Theresia (Schmitt) Thelen. Herm was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Joseph Society. Herm enjoyed softball, bowling and fishing. On October 23, 1946 he married Bernadette Snitgen and together they shared 66 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents; children Daniel and Audrey; brothers Albert, Elmer and Bruno; sister, Anna Goodman; son-in-law, Bruce Thelen; grandson Adam Thelen. Surviving are his wife, Bernadette; children Kathleen (Paul) Bierstetel, Susan (Roger) Pohl, John E. Thelen, Andrea (Tom) Wilson, Thomas (Kim) Thelen, Patrick (Denise) Thelen, Maureen Thelen and Neil (Julie) Thelen; 21 Grandchildren; 37 Great Grandchildren; Sisters Bertha Simon, Regina (Harold) Simon, Rita (David) Witgen, Agnes (Ken) Stump, Mary (Marvin) Platte and Jenny (Carol) Platte; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Conlon at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 26, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m., Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel. The rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m., Saturday and 3 p.m., Sunday.
