Howard Coe Portland, Michigan Obituary

Howard Coe

Howard Merrill Coe Portland Howard was born October 1, 1914 and passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 after being on dialysis for nearly five years. He was such a ‘trooper’ who took things as they came and never wavered in his Faith in God. He trusted and received the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was a teenager. He served as a deacon at the Portland Baptist Church for many years. He also kept the heating system (old boiler) going, and fixed everything that needed fixing; even climbing up in the ceiling of the sanctuary. He was Mr. Fix-it, always helping people. After working at Valley City Milling Company for 17 years a fire occurred, so he had to find another job. For the next 25 years he worked at Builders Lumber & Supply. Many customers asked for him and he was a very faithful, loyal and hard worker. On September 22, 1934 Howard married Vivian Miles and they had 73 wonderful years together. Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Lydia Coe; sister, Ethel Allen; 2 infant sons, Billy Dean and Keith; and granddaughter, Jackie Lakin. Surviving him are his 10 children, Janet (Jim) Lakin of Portland, Rosa Lee (Don) Tiffany of Wyoming, MI, Darrell (Carol) Coe of Hollywood, FL, Tom (Marcia) Coe of Hudsonville, MI, Mary Ellen (Larry) Benjamin of Wildomar, CA, Sharon (Gary) Benjamin of Bay City, MI, Gary (Carol) Coe of Wyoming, MI, Margaret Engberg of Grand Rapids, MI, Richard (Cindy) Coe of Holt, and Martha Coe of Wyoming, MI; 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Howard’s love for the Lord, his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren have been an inspiration and he leaves behind a wonderful legacy and memories too many to mention. He surely will be missed but what a HOPE we have knowing we will see him again someday in Heaven! Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at the First Baptist Church, Portland; with Pastor Steve Taylor officiating. Interment will take place at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Church from 11-1 p.m. prior to the service. Online condolences may be made at www.schraubenlehman.com.
