Portland, MI Age 84, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. He was born on May 13, 1924 in Lansing the son of Martin and Victoria (Alexander) Honsowitz. Mr. Honsowitz was employed by Diamond REO, and is retired from Portland Public Schools. Hugh was an avid car enthusiast, but his family was his true love in life. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Victoria VanAlstine; 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Betty (Lenneman) Honsowitz; children, Joseph (Eileen) Honsowitz, Michael (Jane) Honsowitz, Barbara (Skip) Bever and Thomas (Janice) Honsowitz; son-in-law Leonard (Barbara) VanAlstine; 18 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren; sister, Sophia Lenneman. The Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland with Pastor Errol Jameson presiding. Interment will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
