Ilene Fockler Obituary

Ilene Ann (Ward) (Manning) Fockler Portland, MI Age 76, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2009 at the home of her son, Richard (Charlene) Hans, after a short illness. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI, the daughter of John Frank and Gertrude (Schilds) Ward. She attended Palo Schools through the 9th grade. She married Richard Delbert Manning on February 17, 1954 and after his death married Frank Devere Fockler on November 17, 1967. Ilene was a very busy mother and enjoyed caring for her family and home. She also enjoyed music, playing games (especially Yahtzee), and her dogs and cats through the years. She was also very proud of her mother’s Full-blooded Cherokee Indian heritage and enjoyed American Indian collectibles. In her later years she enjoyed fishing, working on crafts, and of course her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leroy Baker, Arza Ward, Lester Ward, and Clifford Ward; sisters, Sheldon Ward, Violet (Baker) Spates, Edith (Ward) Roberts; infant son Manning; daughter, Debra Kay (Manning) Dominguez; and son-in-law, Gary Austin. She is survived by her children, Yvonne Austin and Richard (Charlene) Hans of Portland, Kathryn Hans of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Michael Manning and Troy Manning of San Antonio, TX, Renee (Phil) Sinclair, Allan (Patty) Fockler, and Lisa Fockler of Ionia; step-children, Ed (Bobbi) Fockler of Manton and Cindy (Paul) Johnson of McBain; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 11:00 AM service on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the Portland United Methodist Church, Portland, MI with Pastor Keith Treman officiating. Interment will take place at Balcom Cemetery, Ionia, MI, immediately following the service. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be given to the family in care of Richard and Charlene Hans. A special thank you to the staff of Ionia County Memorial Hospital Home Care, Hospice of Lansing, and Ionia Area Hospice for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Ilene and her family.
