Jacob Russell Obituary

Jacob T. Russell, age 38, of Georgetown, Kentucky, formerly of DeWitt, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. As a child, Jacob was very creative, drawing pictures and sketches to be sent home in “homemade” cards for birthdays and special occasions. Jacob was quite poetic, often creating poems for his family by including special events in their lives. He was sure to capture their hearts with his humor and whit. Growing up, he showed strong traits of an entrepreneurial spirit when looking to grow his money, often times by making a food menu for his brothers’ to order from, so he could serve them “restaurant style”. While Jacob attended DeWitt High School he participated on the tennis and golf team. He displayed academic excellence on every level, especially while completing his degree in Packaging Engineering at Michigan State University. Jacob was a committed employee at Toyota Corporation, specializing in packing and planning management at the Lexington, Kentucky facility, where he devoted many years of service. Jacob was a genuinely kind, caring, and generous man; he displayed a quiet confidence to all he would meet. He was a dedicated father to his two daughters, Olivia and Sophie Russell, always being sure to attend to their needs in the development of their home, school, and spiritual life. Jacob thoroughly enjoyed taking his daughters fishing and camping. Jacob devoted his life to serving others, especially those in need. He worked at the DeWitt Retreat House and as an assistant and altar server to Fr. DeLaney. He was a contributor to Habitat for Humanity and a volunteer cook for the soup kitchen, chili being his specialty. Jacob even won a cook-off contest at a charitable event once. Jacob was a Knights of Columbus member and an avid marathon runner. He was loyally devoted to his Catholic faith, the Holy Rosary, Adoration, and the Holy Scriptures. Jacob is survived by his beloved mother and step-father, Mary Lou and Tom Lehman; loving father, Sam Russell; dear brothers, Justin and Jeremy Russell; cherished daughters, Olivia and Sophie Russell; and many, special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 18, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. The rosary will be prayed on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. For those wishing to make a memorial contribution in honor of Jacob, the funds will contribute to the ongoing care and education of Olivia and Sophie. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
