Age 75, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2012. He was born on September 1, 1936 in Grand Ledge, MI the son of Floyd and Lucille (Hawkins) Carroll. Mr. Carroll was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and retired from General Motors after 32 years of service. James was a volunteer on the Portland Fire Dept. for 10 years, and he enjoyed going to coffee with the guys. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd; wife, Linda in 2001; brother-in-law, Dennis Lefke. Surviving are his sons, Troy (Linda) Carroll, Todd Carroll, and Chad Carroll, all of Portland; grandchildren, Shelby, Dylan and Amber Carroll; mother, Lucille Carroll; sister, Kaye Lefke; nieces, Tami (Dave) Harman, and Michelle Lefke. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland, with Rev. Dr. Marilyn V. Danielson, Pastor of the Portland Congregational Church presiding. Interment will follow at East Sebewa Cemetery. Military Graveside honors will be provided by the V.F.W. Post #4090. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
