James Louis Smith<br/><br/>Westphalia<br/><br/>James Louis Smith passed peacefully on November 3, 2015. He was born in Westphalia on February 1, 1934, to Leo and Antoinette (Fedewa) Smith. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Joseph Society. He retired from Fisher Body and was a life-long farmer. He enjoyed farming, summers at the cottage, and playing cards.<br/><br/>On November 21, 1953, he married Marilyn Halfmann and together they raised nine children. James was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law Martin and Florence Halfmann, siblings: Carl (Rose), Loretta (Alvin), Joanne (Ernie), Delbert (Rosaline), Viola and in-sister-law Rita. He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 61 years, his nine children: Daniel (Deb), David (Tina), Ann Marie (Patrick) Schneider, Gary (Julie), Sandy (Tom) Koenigsknecht, Marsha (Kevin) Smith, Linda (Rick) Martin, Brenda (Todd) Gardner, Sara (Paul) Feldpausch, 29 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Mary (Marvin), Lucille (Gerald), and Jerome (Carleen), in laws: Elvan, Doris (Donnie), Eileen (Jim), Janet (Clare), Francis, and many nieces and nephews.<br/><br/>The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 7, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia, with Rev. Eric Weber presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Rosaries will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and 12:30 p.m. Friday and a Scriptural Wake Service held at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.
