Janean West Obituary

Portland Beloved wife, mother, grandma and great grandma passed away peacefully on October 12, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. Janean was born on July 10, 1935 in Lansing the daughter of George and Norma (Atwell) Sandborn. On September 20, 1952 she married her "Johnny" her best friend and love of her life. Janean was a lifelong resident of Portland, she graduated from Portland High School in 1953. She was an active member of the Portland United Methodist Church her entire life having been a Communion Steward for over 20 years and serving on the Memorial Committee. She also served on the Supervisory Committee at the Portland Federal Credit Union from 1975 to 1998 and was familiar face at the election time having worked the polls for 10 years. Janean worked at Maynard Allen State Bank, provided day care in her home for years while raising her own family and she also retired from Portland Schools in 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bill and Gary, and in laws Ken and Ruth Becker. She is survived by John, her husband of 56 years; sons John and Karen West of Portland and Dan and Patty West of Grand Ledge; daughters Tammy and Denny Schafer of Fowler and Liz and Scott Blundy of Portland. Also surviving are her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy Kristi (Dustin) Bruse, Amanda, Audrey, Nick, Kyle, and Aaron West, Chad (Kary), Daric and Travis Schafer, Stacey (Eric) Simon, Pvt. Joshua Klein of the United States Marines, Sydney Klein, Kevin and Tory Blundy; She also survived by her beloved first great granddaughter, Katelyn Bruse. Janean is survived by her sisters Mary Sandborn, Beverly Fedewa, Norma Kay Hill, and Jackie Whitfield; brothers Bud (Ellie), Chuck (Jeri), Steve (Gerry) and Jim (Brenda) Sandborn; sister-in-law, Patricia Sandborn; brothers and sisters -in-law George (Donna) Becker, Tom (Anna) Becker and Barb Becker Sherrard and many loving nieces and nephews. Janean was a beautiful gentle person who was loved by so many and a friend to all who knew her. She will always be remembered for her joy of life, her sense of humor, her devotion to her family and her friends and her famous sugar cookies. The Funeral Service will be conducted by Pastor Keith Treman at 11:00a.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the Portland United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m., Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland.
