Jeanette Beachnau

Jeanette Mary Beachnau Westphalia, Michigan Age 94, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2014. She was born on August 6, 1920 in Westphalia, Michigan the daughter of Anthony and Dora (Rademacher) Pohl. Mom is like snow, she beautified everything she touched, including our hearts, souls, and now our memories. Her heart was filled with love, kindness and generosity. Mom and Dad loved their family unconditionally. Jeanette communicated with friends from California, to the Midwest, to the East Coast, and even to Germany, through email on her IPad, which kept her in contact with hundreds of friends. In 1943, along with her husband Red, they purchased a farmhouse with no electricity or running water, and turned it into a comfortable country home. In 1944, she went to work for the U.S. General Accounting Office in Lansing, Michigan, and later returned to the work force at Michigan State Accident Fund after being a stay-at-home mom for 30 years. Jeanette was a 4-H leader and taught sewing for 9 years, and was also a member of the Christian Mothers Guild. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband of 57 years, Esten "Red" Beachnau; brothers, Anthony Pohl, Robert Pohl and Elgin Pohl. Surviving are her children, Dr. Bruce (Diane) Beachnau of Portland, Dawn (Mark) Thelen of Portland, Daniel (Deborah) Beachnau of Lansing, Todd Beachnau of Yachats, OR, Dorothea (Dr. Carl) Fischer of Ann Arbor, Gery (Paula) Beachnau of Portland, and Dale (Adel) Beachnau of Portland; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; brother, Elvan Pohl; sisters-in-law, Marie Pohl and Ellen Pohl; many good friends, nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia, with Rev. Eric Weber presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. A Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m., and a Scriptural Wake Service held at 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral chapel. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Austin's House, in memory of Mrs. Beachnau. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland.
