Jerry Fernholz Obituary

Age 62, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2005. He was born on February 14, 1943 in Portland, MI the son of Frederick and Lillian (Leik) Fernholz. Mr. Fernholz was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and a member of the American Legion Post # 129 of Portland. Jerry loved bowling, playing cards and gardening. He loved his grandkids, especially enjoying taking them for rides on the tractor and buying them candy. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bob Fernholz; brother-in-laws, Pete Hall and Hank Fedewa. Surviving are his wife Gladys of Portland; children, Scott Fernholz, Monika (Nick) Ferris of Ionia, Kendra (Troy) Miller of Ionia, Joseph Becker of Lansing, Keith (Lisa) Becker of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kevin Becker of Portland; grandchildren, Brooke Tiemann, Cullen Tiemann, Zach Ferris and Emily Becker; brother, Larry (Sue) Fernholz of Portland; sisters, Rosie Hall of Port Charlotte, FL, Lorena (Lee) Smith of Charlotte, Germaine (Jim) Thompson of Saranac and Dorothy (Roger) Waltz of Laingsburg; sister-in-law, Anita Fernholz of Portland. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Portland, with the Rev. Larry King, Pastor, presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at Danby Township Cemetery. Military Graveside Honors will be provided by the Portland VFW Post # 4090. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. A Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. Monday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday.
