Age 73, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2005. She was born on January 30, 1932 in Ionia, MI the daughter of Harry and Helen (Gates) Martin. Mrs. Hickock graduated from Ionia High School in 1950. Joan worked for many years for the Lutheran Social Services, working with the handicapped. She was also a former member of the Zion E.U.B.. More recently, she was a part of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, and loved reading her bible and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gerald and Don Martin; infant twin sisters. Surviving are her children, Steve (Tina) Hickock of Orange Beach, AL, Terry (Terry) Hickock of Ionia, Mark (Charlene) Hickock of Ionia, Carole (Brian Gardner) Woolston of Orleans, and Julie (Rick) Lake of Ionia; 19 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brother, Jim (Elly) Martin of Hawaii. Jim is currently serving his country in Iraq; sisters, Lucille (Don) Bates of Ionia and Nancy (Walt) Gale of Plymouth; many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be conducted by the Rev. Darren Tharpe, Pastor at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Ionia. Interment will follow at Easton Township Cemetery, Ionia. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
