John E. Arens

Born September 28, 1939 in Westphalia, the son of Theodore and Hildegard Arens, passed away on May 29, 2013 of A.L.S. at the age of 73. He served in the Michigan National Guard. John was a Master Electrician and part owner of Westphalia Electric for 41 years. He was a wonderful father, brother and son. He was a world traveler, avid skiier and a generous and compassionate man especially to the poor. He also loved nature. He entertained family and friends at Houghton Lake at the cottage he built. John was a member of the Jug and Mug Ski Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ronald A. and Richard and a nephew, Kevin Lucas. Surviving are his daughter, Christi Robinson (Eddie) and granddaughter, Avery of Phoenix, AZ; 3 brothers Alban (Eugenia), Ronald J. (Kay), and Bruce (Sharon); 3 sisters Jane Lucas (Gary), Gladys Stauffer (Lee), and Diane George (Bruce). The Service of the Word will be celebrated by Rev. James Conlon at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service at St. Mary's Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ALS of Michigan (alsofmichigan.org) in memory of John. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
