Age 87, gentle brother, brother-in-law and uncle passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2005. He was born on July 22, 1917 in Westphalia, MI the son of William and Mary (Smith) Simon. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, as well as the Knights of Columbus St. Jude Thaddeus Westphalia Council #2890. John loved farming his land and visiting with his neighbors, friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin, Tony and Leonard; brother-in-law, Byron Howe; sister-in-law, Grace Simon. Surviving are his sister, Leonore Howe; brother, Celestine Simon; sisters-in-law, Juliana and Norma Simon; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2005 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, Westphalia, from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the local 4-H clubs, in memory of Mr. John Simon. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
