Joseph Harrison Obituary

Mr. Joseph Harrison, age 81, of Ionia, passed away at home on October 8th, 2009. He was born on November 8, 1927 in Kalamazoo, MI the son of Joseph C. and Blanche M. (Hoskin) Harrison. In 1946 and 47, he served in the occupational forces of World War ll in Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from Western Michigan University in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He went on to get a Masters of Education Degree from the University of Michigan in 1955. In 1962 he came to Ionia, Michigan to become the Principal of Ionia High School. In 1973 he went back into the classroom and taught mathematics until his retirement in 1986. He spent many happy years in retirement both at his home in Ionia and at his cottage up north on Horsehead Lake. He bowled for many years and also enjoyed the camaraderie of all his bowling friends. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty; his children, Brenda and Paul Prescott of Holland, Diane Harrison of the Cayman Islands; two grandchildren; Marie Prescott and Jay Prescott of Austin, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Eunice and Ed Serratore of Santa Barbara, California; one brother-in-law, Richard Reynnells of Lawrence, MI. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home; Cook Chapel, Ionia, MI. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home Wednesday 12:00 to 1:00p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ionia Public Library, in memory of Mr. Joseph Harrison.
