Joseph M. Spitzley Obituary

Joseph M. Spitzley

Westphalia

On December 28, 2015 Joe joined his parents, brothers, sisters and many friends for a holiday reunion in heaven. He was born on March 23, 1920 the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Pung) Spitzley. Joe was a quiet, kind man who was always ready to help family and friends in any way he could. He was a lifelong farmer and spent any free time he had hunting, fishing and catching up with friends in his basement for endless supplies of homemade hard cider, cards and inspiring conversations. In 2011, at Westphalia’s Oktoberfest, his cider was voted the best in town, an achievement he was extremely proud of. “Uncle Joe” you are greatly loved and will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert, Alfred, Casper, and Leon Spitzley; sisters Rosaline Spitzley, Lillian Droste, and Sister Stella Marie Spitzley. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and good friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at St. Mary’s Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends 3-8 p.m., on Tuesday at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosary will be prayed at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday. Arrangements are with Lehman Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
