Joseph Tichvon

Age 97, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2005. He was born on January 8, 1908 in Chicago, IL the son of Wendell and Helen Tichvon. Mr. Tichvon was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and he lived in Portland for 69 years, serving on the City Council and as Mayor, a position he held for 14 years. Joseph was a 4th degree member of the Father Godez Assembly, and a member of the Portland Knights of Columbus Council #2168. He enjoyed fishing and being at his cottage. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cecilia; son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Barbara. Surviving are his children, Rosemary (Charles) Sochor of Gowen, Richard (Joyce) Tichvon of Portland and Ronald (Shirley) Tichvon of Grand Ledge; 19 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren; brother, Frank Tichvon; sister, Helen (Henry) Kaumuyer; brother-in-law, Bernard (Donna) Bala; sister-in-law, Seraphine (Rudy) Arbanas; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2005 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Portland, with the Rev. Larry King, Pastor presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday. A Vigil Service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Portland District Library, in memory of Mr. Joseph V. Tichvon.
