Leon J. Brokaw Eagle, Michigan Age 88, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013. He was born on August 31, 1924 in Eagle, MI the son of Mark and Gertrude (Cooper) Brokaw. Leon retired from TRW in Portland in 1984, and was a lifelong farmer. Mr. Brokaw was a veteran of World War II, surviving on the USS Hughes in the Pacific. He was a member of the VFW Post #4090 in Portland, a board member of the Portland Area Service Group, mentor, hero and friend to everyone he met. Leon was born on Brokaw Corners, and by God he died there. Preceding him in death was his wife, Helen "Nana" Brokaw. Surviving are his companion, Joyce McClung; children, Lee (Sandra) Brokaw, Dee (Bob) Deehan, Mike (Karen) Foltz, and Marcia (Mark) Griffin; sisters, Marian (Randy) Vanvalkenburg, and Judy (Jerry) Falor; grandchildren, Kassandra Brokaw, Jeff (Maricela) Deehan, Amanda Deehan, Sara Foltz, Katie (Bill) Narita, Scott (Reid) Foltz, Ted (Shanna) Foltz, Rebecca Foltz, Sean Kemp, and Troy Kemp; 7 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Leon's Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. A Military Graveside Service will follow at Niles Cemetery, Eagle, MI, with the Portland VFW Post #4090 presiding. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
