Obituary Leon M. Hoppes Portland Age 82, passed away on June 7, 2007. He was born on April 6, 1925 in Portland the son of Leo and Minnie (Huhn) Hoppes. Leon was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Portland and the Knights of Columbus #2168. He is retired from General Motors and is a veteran of WWII serving in the Navy - Seaman 2nd Class until September 10, 1945. He enjoyed morning coffe at Walt's with family and friends, playing cards, furniture making, flea markets and auctions, fishing, camping and making hard cider. On September 11, 1948 he married Geraldine "Jerry" Halfman and together they shared 58 and half years of marriage. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Virginia Townsend and Colleen Trierweiler; brothers Stan Hoppes and Jerry Hoppes; brother-in-law, Dick Kelly; sister-in-laws Carol Hoppes and Joan Hoppes. Surviving are his wife Jerry; Children Judy (Duane) Huhn, Connie (Doug) Smith, Cathy (Tom) Klein, Nancy (Gary) Shortz, and Ken (Mary Jane ) Hoppes; Grandchildren Marc (Kim) Huhn, Nikki (Andy) Mosser, Christine (Joe) Krieger, Kevin Klein, Kim Klein, Sara Shortz, Cal Shortz, Troy Smith (fiancee Cortney), Cassie Smith and Jessica Hoppes; Great Grandchildren Mallory Huhn, Max Huhn, Riley Mosser; siblings Alice Kelly, Dick Hoppes, Jim (Sharon) Hoppes, Joe (Alice) Hoppes, Larry (Dee Dee) Hoppes, Tom (Jill) Hoppes; brother and sister -in-laws Bill Trierweiler, Oscar Townsend, Mary Hoppes; many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2007 by Rev. Peter Vu. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive 7-9 p.m., Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Monday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
