Luella Adkinson

Age 93, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2004. She was born the youngest of 5 girls on April 6, 1911 in Cass County, Indiana the daughter of Webster W. and Emma (McCracken) Hopkins. She married Ross Adkinson and he preceded her in death in 1976. Also preceding her in death were 4 sisters and 1 brother. Luella graduated from Young America Indiana High School in 1929 and Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Music and Butler University in 1933. She began teaching violin and piano just after high school and continued that most of her life. She taught in the Indiana schools 11 years before coming to Michigan in 1960, where she organized the Palo Community School Band and taught music and math for 19 years. She was a member of Palo Methodist Church where she was a choir member since 1962, and served as pianist and assistant organist. Mrs. Adkinson organized a junior choir in 1962, which she directed for 3 years. She also sang for 3 years in the Ionia Community Choir when it was first organized. Surviving are 2 children, David (Carol) Adkinson of Palo and Sarah (Fred) Carlson of Royal Center, Indiana; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 1 niece and 1 nephew. The Funeral Service will be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Harger, Pastor at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 28, 2004 at the Shiloh Community Church. Interment will follow at Palo Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Ionia from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Palo Community Schools Music Department, in memory of Mrs. Luella H. Adkinson.
